@BlackfeetSinopaa technically its all in the effect length of the strings... shorten the strings by pressing them to the neck, and you get the same notes as if the strings were that length... You could play a viola piece on a bass, in theory.

well its called a cello not a violin, if you made the instrument then you could of called it a huge violin but you didn't so. lol!
