William Melvin Hicks(December 16, 1961- February 26, 1994)was an American stand-up comedian.

Finding moderate mainstream success in the late 1980s and early '90s, Hicks tended to balance heady discussion of religion, politics, philosophy and personal issues with more ribald material; he characterized his own performances as "Chomsky with dick jokes."

Many people believe some comedians plagiarised Hicks' material and attempted to pass it off as their own, most notably Denis Leary. And if you listen to other comedians such as Sam Kinison and George Carlin, you can find material similar to Hicks' as well. But I believe all these comedians were just influenced by Hicks' and meant no foul. It's all debatable.

Hicks played the final show of his career at Caroline's in New York City on January 6, 1994. He moved back to his parents' house in Little Rock, Arkansas shortly thereafter. He called his friends to say goodbye before he stopped speaking on February 14, and died of cancer in the presence of his parents at 11:20 p.m. on February 26, 1994. Hicks was buried on the family plot in Leakesville, Mississippi.

I'm glad that at least some people have their eyes open enough, who truly listened to what Bill Hicks had to say. The people here bashing the lady at the end have sadly missed the point of much of what BH has had to say. I'd say that these people have watched BH simply because of the buzz words "religion, politics, drugs", but have clearly missed the point of what BH was saying. They only see the surface. The distraction... Too busy hearing their thoughts through BH to understand the subtext.
