... arguably, the finest aircraft ever built. I've known pilots who left passenger-jet airline pilot careers to fly DC3 cargo flights and stayed on- just to fly these planes! I hear tell there are pilot waiting-lists @ those carriers who have these venerable aircraft. Man, when you build something 'right.'... .

You can thank the founder of American Airlines for these planes. It was he who put them into use just before the war then had them converted for use in the Army air corps.
