@Wingnutcaseman smh, what are they waiting for?
-
@AmazinglyAgnostic Don't get me wrong, I think it would be a good idea to electrify this line. But with all the work that needs to be done and no interest expressed from the T so far, I just don't see it happening. Not soon, anyway.

@Wingnutcaseman "They'd have to take care of the lines"< that's creating jobs. Plus, it would economically/financially stabilize the MBTA and the Boston area (aka transit-oriented development) as more people will feel comfortable to leave their cars at home to ride the purple T's.
-
@AmazinglyAgnostic It wouldn't be cheap. Even the Providence line has several MBTA only tracks which aren't electrified. They'd have to take care of all that and the Pawtucket layover yard to bring electric service to the T's busiest commuter rail line.
As stated elsewhere, the K-cars are rated for only 88 mph so electric locomotives wouldn't significantly increase the top speed but trains would accelerate better.

@jfsa380 Until they got their latest batch of Kawasaki bilevels, only the MBB single level coaches had restrooms in them. Today you'll see some consists of solid bilevels, but they still mix and match single level coaches on most trains.
