Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (West Mt. Airy) : March 29 2009 at 6:53 p.m. The afternoon turned out to be somewhat nicely sunny, with the temperature reaching into the 60's for a while. When all of a sudden, a heavy rainstorm broke out, and it was obviously MUCH colder up in the clouds where it was coming from, and it quickly turned into the heaviest hailstorm I remember seeing in years. Though brief, as these things tend to be. Up to 1/2-inch in diameter on my front walkway and lawn. Those piles of white things: Not dogwood petals - much too early. That's ice.
