I read somewhere recently that we in Britain clock up more walking miles than any other nation. I never thought about walking as an eccentric thing to do until I visited the US in the 1980s. Georgia mostly. I used to walk half a mile to the grocery store every day, and noticed how few other people were doing the same. Even the poorest people seemed to go everywhere by car. I'd get some quite strange looks, as if I was either mad or a criminal.
Cuddly? You think?
