The James Irvine Redwoods of N. California, just North of Orick, a place that never ceases to inspire me.

Orick was and still is a lumber town. Apparently they still don't like the Park Service for stopping them from logging the great trees. When you drive though this poor town all you see is lots of stores selling 'Redwood' woodwork of one sort or another.

To me the trees are almost holy in that you stand in their presence and you are dwarfed, and in the serene quiet of the forest the place has a very spiritual feel to it (and Im really NOT that sort of a guy). It really does pain me to think of people hacking up these trees for anything, least of all trinkets for tourists.

  • Whatever their political ideology, people suck whenever they feel that their greed warrants the destruction of anything and anyone whose existence is a barrier to profit.

'Economic expediency' is such a phenomenally powerful driving force in our world today; people live and die for it, even though the entire notion of money is a pretty abstract and artificial construct.

  • @norcallogger

wrong idea? WTF Maxxam has raped northern California old growth forests pretty much to extinction. The warrior and hero's who are sacrificing everything to save them deserve to be treated 1000x better than they have been. Whatever actions tree defense activists have taken has been justified by the pure good they contribute to our earth!

  • im not going to deny that its neet to see these trees but the fact of the matter is a lot of people get the wrong idea when it comes to logging and if they just sat down and did a little resurce they would really come up with different views talk to a logger and you will get a different view other than one of the eco nut

  • Yeah this is a temperate rainforest but a tropical one would be different

  • 141 people must be rednecks

  • Is it me but at 4m55s to 5m05s the tree has half a face in a red colour. Thanks for your inspiration TF!

  • I've been to the Olympic National Forest a couple times now and no words can describe the feeling you get being surrounded by such old growth. You conveyed every feeling I ever felt trudging around in those fern and moss covered forests. The fact that you say this place trumps ONF boggles my mind. I can't wait to experience this place for myself.

  • The self-righteous hypocrit discriminating KOOKS on here make me laugh. "trees feel pain" don't cut them down , they're BIG and OLD ! But this carrot stick is SMALL and YOUNG , I'll RAPE it out of the ground , and bite it's head off ! LMFAO ! ! !

  • I've always wanted to live in a deep wood area like this, but there are no places like this for sale. I'd want to build a small cabin there.

  • Imagine what the world would look like without there ever being humans around.

Here in DK nature doesn't exist anymore, everything is either city, road, plantations, fields for crops; there is propably not one square foot left that has not been ploughed or dug or built upon as some point in time.

What homo sapiens has done to nature is rape.

    Thanks, Ekhaat

  • Thanks Thunderf00t this is really inspiring, thank you for taking us along on your journey
