The painting of the teeth and eyes was unique to the 40s? or just a common thing for all US fighters of the period?

I've only ever seen them on 40s and was wondering if it was factory delivered this way.

My kitty! Magnificent video and images on my favorite warbird ever. Marvellous desert camouflage; I was starting to miss a great deal a P-40 painted on that scheme; the most beautiful ever (to me) for a P-40... And the flight formation with the Zero is rocking, stunning, fantastic! Excellent job.
