Joan Baez ~ SAD-EYED LADY OF THE LOWLANDS ~ Dylan. A redo is in the making.

I asked and YouTube refuse to grant me another minute and a half for the song to finish. It`s a pity. I think this is one of Joan`s most expressive interpretation of a Dylan song. Hear the Dylan version, and then the Baez version. Hear Baez`s soaring soprano, her endurance and urgency she brings to the song cut short. Still her vocal range is displayed beautifully.

  • The entire cut is on a twin-album entitled, "Any Day Now". That album is one of a kind that you'll play virtually every day. Trust me.

  • @oriskany Yes, I do have that album.

  • it sounds like she will keep on singing...

I wonder if there are more verses than on the album, must be, because it is so much longer. I'll have to check it out sometime.

  • @tinacornell1 yes, YouTube would not give me another minute and a half for the song to finish. Yes, there is an end to the song. It doesn`t fade out.

  • Sad-eyed lady always makes me cry.... Very special memories...

  • @lenahjonsson Yes, I understand your sentiments. Joan sings it very sadly. Take care!

  • This was always the antedote to a bad "trip" the next morning. Her voice would always bring us down to a smooth landing. Hell, we weren't even on the Continent, and yet we needed her reassuring voice to bring us in, a long, long time ago.

I only wish I could have have turned my eldest son on to this before I lost him last February. Jason, my son, are you there?

  • @CaptainJimKirk Thank you CaptainJimKirk for your message good day

  • @Embrun76 It's OK. You don't have to apologise for being French - you can't help it.

  • I sometimes think that all of the computers and social networking has destroyed good writing and song lyrics. Everyone sits in front of the computer today and reads Twits, Facebook, Myspace, and God knows what else. It contaminates good writing and makes us loose our imagination. Will anyone ever write a song like this again? The answer is no. No one actually sits down and reads books...actual books with paper pages!

  • The lyrics are amazing! Joan made this song beautiful. She knew it a song for Dylan's wife but she still recorded it. Baez and Dyaln were a couple I actually think it is a song that combines both Dylan's now ex wife and Baez. No one writes songs like this these days! I wish people would trash all the rap crap, the Madonna, the Rianna and others who cannot write good lyrics! The words in this song are amazing!

  • @SLSBCMcInally

Even stranger is that she is singing a song he really wrote about her-not sarah.

Bob admitted to me that 97% of tjhe song is about Joan. My sister, Carolyn Dennis was married to him for a while.

  • Where did you find this photo? I have never seen it before.
