Steve Martin spoke with Rita Braver on his feelings from the reception and reviews of his interview at the 92nd Street Y which called him "boring" when he spoke about his book "An Object of Beauty" which discusses his love of art.
Steve Martin has two very different personae. One being a goofy, noodle-limbed, slack-jawed buffoon and the other a serious-minded, well-educated patrician. Apparently, the audience expected the former.
The 92nd St. YMCA should feel absolutely ashamed at their action. Mr. Martin was donating his time, and the idiots used charitable contributions toward appeasing their moronic crowd of fair weather patrons.
@dmitriy40 I saw a simulcast. HE was not the problem. It was the format and the interviewer. Fellow viewers were squirming in their seats until they literally stopped the show and asked the interviewer to take it in another direction. Even after that, it didn't go that well but it became theater of the absurd at that point and at least not boring.
What moron refunded charity money under any circumstance? Was the idea for people to see Steve Martin or was it to raise money for kids? I hope this doesn't keep him from donating his time and genius to helping other causes. Because when you give to others you get back in return. Shame on these people.

genius analysis of what happened.
he is 100% right.
refunding the money was the stupidest thing in the world, and very insulting.
I am more or less indifferent to his performance/craft/art, but really feel for him here.
92stY is a bunch of duchebag assholes.
