One of the best ways to save money is to ensure that your house is well insulated to minimise fuel bills. Our house was made in 2000 and we moved here in 2004. We were told it is bound by building regulations to have been fitted with cavity wall insulation. I began to query this as parts got a lot colder than others in the winter. Eventually when a new front door was fitted I had the opportunity to look into the cavity between the two walls.. There was no insulation visible in that short section. Was it just that short section? Eventually I found a company who would come and check for us. Previous Companies I had approached were not at all interested once they heard the year of manufacture saying we must already have it. I did not know how they could check to be sure we had it, or not, or what is involved in having it fitted. What do they do, how do they do it and how long would it take? Nor did most people I had talked to on the subject. So I thought a video on what happened could well be useful for others in the same situation. As the video proves, you can never be sure it has been fitted until you have it checked!

  • It is very interesting to see your house.

    When the house was built?

To isolate the house is a very good idea.

  • @WoelkerVideo The house is now eleven years old. We have lived here since 2004.

  • hmm, no safety straps/harness etc, drill not at 90 degree's, is that a specially used 18mm drill bit and nozzel not the usual 26 hmmm oh drill hole very close to flue..

  • OH OH Micky Dees here we come hahaha

  • @2stroketurbo Very interesting. Trust you to be so thorough! It was worth it i can see, to achieve such benefits..

  • We hired the infared test separate, the insulation company had to come back and fill the cavities they missed. We had them put 24" in the attic as well. Now we cannot hear air planes flying above. We also did a CFM leak test of the house before and after. We reduced drafts by 1700 cfm, almost like shutting a window that was open at all times. Incredible difference, and energy saving program help w cost. Our Craftsman house was built in 1914 in Portland Oregon, we have simular climate as you.

  • @trainfart Thanks for watching! I expect its even more important to have in a house in Germany which can get much colder than the UK.

  • @2stroketurbo Thats good to hear! Interesting that your company checked with infra red. I did wonder how they could be absolutely sure the beads had reached everywhere.
