More counterfeit Apple computer stores have been discovered in southern China. Last month NTD reported on two stores that were found in Kunming City, the capital of Yunnan Province. The new findings point to a growing problem of respecting copyrights and trademarks.

Twenty-two fake Apple stores have been newly identified in Kunming City, the capital of Yunnan Province in southern China. According to a Reuters report, there's no word if the shops were selling fake Apple products or ones illegally smuggled in to China.

Last month, NTD reported on two fake Apple stores that were also found in Kunming.

This is one of several unauthorized Apple stores in the area—complete with the white Apple logo, wooden tables, identical posters and cheery staff in blue t-shirts.

One customer didn't feel it mattered.

[Hu Junkai, Kunming City Resident]:
"If the products you buy are real and not counterfeit, who cares whether this store is a copy or not. The only thing that matters is that their products are real."

Apple has authorized about one thousand re-sellers to sell its goods in China, but they are not allowed to call themselves Apple stores.

Others buy popular Apple products abroad and smuggle them into the country to avoid taxes, selling them at cheaper prices than at the authorized stores.

But a senior researcher at China Market Research says it could hurt the brand.

[James Roy, Senior Researcher, China Market Research]:
"Well it can hurt, especially if people can't tell the difference between the real thing and the copy. People might have a bad experience, they might blame the brand."

So far Apple has declined to comment on the fake stores, but a spokesman said consumers can go to the company's website to locate authorized outlets.

  • fake is fake!n0 matter what they call it!

  • 1. They're allowed to resell apple products, but are not supposed to run independent 'Apple Stores' (in this video they're running independent 'Apple Stores' i.e. When Steve Jobs passed away, they probably didn't have a minute's silence, or a Candle lit vigil outside)

    2. There is a separate case of fake iPhones, which are a totally different product that looks physically like an iPhone, but is some crappy Java-powered or android phone. (this is what the guy is referring to in the vid.)

  • Come on, Apple are selling their blue monday products at a lower price in China, but the vendors mustn't call it "Apple", for they are afraid of the bad reputation those inferior products would get them. Deserves them right!

  • @balajimalpani they are actually inferior in quality.

  • @andreasbn228 For retarded fanboys that enjoy overpriced crapware.

  • Who cares if they're selling legitimate products; it's against the law to operate under a trademark name without permission. xD

  • Apple is the most retarded company ever, suing other companies left and right for ridiculous patents they hold and now shutting down stores that sell their products overt technicalities.

  • @balajimalpani they're not paying the taxes which gives apple a bad name.

  • What is up w ith chinese and counterfeiting every fucking thing? Like get a fucking brain...

  • Who cares. The merchandise is fine and legit. Stupid Apple, they're selling your products.
