As far as the VitaMix or Blendtec - don't get caught up in the fanboy debate. BOTH work very well if their best practice procedures are followed. The BT features more programmed routines while the VM features a more manual interface. Both work fine. Storage height & other considerations are often a bigger consideration in many kitchens. If for frequent hvy duty use blending frozen & whole foods - including grinding grain or nuts/seeds into flour, hummus, butter or pastes - stick to the BT or VM.

A much superior test, where the best practices are employed is performed by America'sTestKitchen watch?feature=player_embedded&v=QZArusuuQrc

While some of the low power blenders will do light dutywork, they don't hold up well to more frequent or heavier duty (more whole ingredient) loads. An ex is the KA blender, which is easily jammed (and overheated) & the nylon spur drive gear easily stripped. Determine you usage. Frequent frozen & lrg dense matls are better handled by the VM or BT units.

Or you could try reading the manual and use them properly.

    Then get out more!

Google "Vitamix grinding grain" and note all the other people who do not do it eeither.

Then there is VitaMix's site itself where you can search for the term "grain" and amaze yourself.

also I don't know anybody who would blend a whole orange or apple. Most people would cut the fruit at least in half before putting it in.

I like the VM, many of my friends have one. but I don't know anybody buy a VM to grind grains, not even occasionally.

I would love to see Ninja Blender in this comparison as well.

This video should have some award for most retarded test in the history of youtube! Who would use a blender like that? If it won't process a fruit like an apple, pretty soft, you have to do something somebody would do while using the blender like cutting the apple in half. But noooooo ... let's wait for a few minutes and !!! Yeah, that's the way to do it! And did they even read the instruction or do they ever cook anything at all. Looks like somebody who has never been in a kitchen before.

It seems to me that the design of the blades and shape of the container matter more than overpriced electric motors.

I have the Vita Mix and it mixes apples perfectly....and any vegetables too. You just need to add a little liquid.
