Please READ Everyone - very Important!

If you have not read Libba Bray's The Sweet Far Thing, I highly suggest that you do not watch this video as there will be spoilers regarding two of the primary female characters - Felicity & Pippa.

I was hesitant about tackling this concept, but it was a big part of the third book so I attempted to give it a try. I'm warning you right now though, if you are uncomfortable at the slightest hint of any same sex relationship, then click backspace right now. In TSFT (hopefully everyone who is reading this knows this), it develops that Felicity and Pippa are more than just really close friends. Felicity, after suffering so much chidhood abuse from her father, is a closet lesbian, unable to act upon her feelings but demonstrates them nonetheless in her possessive and protective relationship with her close friend Pippa. For her part, it is suggested that Pippa (now corrupted by the Winterlands) is using Fee's love to manipulate her, though there is also the suggestion that Pippa is bisexual.

This subplot caused some controversy, from readers who didn't pick up on any indication of a more intimate relationship. I personally didn't see it either. However, this video is my attempt to portray Felicity's feelings for her friend, that she has so long strugged to keep a secret. It is (obviously) supposed to take place before Pippa dies and enters the Realms.

The scenes are tastefully put together - meant to imply Felicity's emotions and feelings, without overtly showing them. I also attempted to highlight the subtle nuances of looks, expressions and movements. There is nothing overtly sexual, at least not considering Felicity's provocative personality.

I wanted to put a disclaimer up because if you think the subject matter will make you uncomfortable, don't watch it! DO NOT post negative, homophobic comments concerning the relationship between the girls or I will disable commenting and put this video on private. And that's not fair to the majority of my mature viewers. If you weren't a fan of the subplot that's fine but remember, I didn't write the book, so don't take it out on my video.

Thank You

EDIT* - It has recently come to my attention that I must also state that Felicity is the blonde and Pippa is the brunette. I thought it went without saying that the characters follow their personalities and appearences in the book but apparently not. So I hope that clears things up. I'm not trying to be patronizing and I know the majority of you guys figured it out upon watching, but this way no one can ever complain that I "messed up" the characters in the books, as people have on previous videos.

  • i like how youve put this vid together, but i like your disclaimer even more haha great work xx

  • I like to think that the majority of fans who are attracted to these books are open-minded, intelligent and accepting people but I've come to find out that especially on open forums like Youtube, this is often a place where bigotry strikes. Get a few trolls who happen to stumble upon this video posting inflammatory remarks and the whole thing gets very ugly. And that's just senseless and unnecessary. People's sexuality is their own business. Personal attacks are cowardly and reprehensible.

  • in the book Felicity had blond hair and Pippa had brown hair.

  • And you're point is? It's very obvious to anyone paying attention that the blonde girl is supposed to be Felicity and the brunette, Pippa. Therefore, that comment made no sense.

  • well to me it looks like in your video the brown haired girl looks like Felicity and the blond one looks like Pippa. Anyways you don't have to be mean about it :P

  • I'm not mean about anything. I was genuinely confused by that statement since no one else ever confused the characters before. The vivacious, provocative and manipulative blonde in the video is supposed to match the blonde in the book. The innocent-looking brunette matches the one the book. I did state this was before TSFT and most people got it. Therefore I figured it was obvious and that you just hadn't paid attention/read my video info.

  • I actually saw it coming in A Great and Terrible Beauty. The "sapphists" coversation, Felicity licking Ann's cheek, almost kissing Gemma...I was waiting for Libba to out Fee for the longest. I'm suprised more people didn't see it.

  • I didn't think about it, but it made sense at the end

  • This video messed with my head when I finally got around to watching Northanger Abbey. I couldn't get the idea of out my head that they were actually Fee and Pip. Very well made, the clips worked great. I was a bit turned off the song at first (very modern) but it actually worked pretty well. Thanks for making it.

  • ahhh i love this vid :) i thought it was a great plot twist. and the fact that you used t.A.T.u made me love it more :)

  • Wow, even after that one meeting in the Winterlands, where Pippa grabs the girl and smooches her for all to see, people still didn't catch on? Hm.

Me, I also saw it in the first installment of the trilogy; Felicity outright claims Sapphists to be disgusting and foul, which hints towards her secret, whereas Pippa doesn't seem bothered, indicating that she is possibly one.

Also, it shows in the fact that, no matter how nicely their suitors treated them, or how handsome, they refused them.

  • well as you see pippa is the prettiest of all of them

  • that blonde girl is really pretty. i kind of want to watch this movie now lol.

  • uuhso are there actually some nice guys who wanna chat with mi

  • Amazing video.

  • Really good song choice.

    Really good video.

    Great job!

  • I love this video!! I read the description, and I found your interpretation of Felicity and Pippa's relation interesting. I do agree that Pippa was definitely manipulating Felicity, but my interpretation was that a part of Pippa did love Felicity. Honestly, I'd never even thought of the possibility of Pippa being bisexual. I always assumed that she had only been with the knight before because she hadn't yet discovered her sexuality. Of course, I could be wrong :)
