Excerpts from an episode entitled "Birthday Boy". Made in 1963. Sadly this show only lasted one season. Phil played Harry Grafton, a foreman at Osborne Industries.

  • Excellent show

  • Just does not seem ANYWHERE as funny as Bilko tho. Mind i dont suppose anything ever was and ever will be, esp the Nat Hiken scripted episodes. Pure class

  • I was a little kid in third grade when this was on. I watched every episode. I know I saw this one--it was familiar. I liked the show. However, i was a little kid so what did I know? He definitely had me, though.

  • I agree, narra58! I love the theme music and also the ending version!

  • Silvers wrote in his autobiography that audiences that liked Sgt. Bilko's antics disapproved of Harry Grafton's: people wrote in saying that Harry was risking getting his coworkers fired and taking money from the company, etc. They changed the character to make him a family man, but it was too late.

  • Honesty is the enemy of greed. Ha ha.

  • If you join the group 'The British Phil Silvers Appreciation Society' on Facebook, you can see 6 full episodes of this series!!

  • Thanks for posting this Mick. This is the first ever clip of this show I have seen.

  • I had given up hope of ever seeing a clip of this. Thanks.

  • This is from the third episode of the series, originally telecast on October 12, 1963. Even though Herbie Faye, who played "Cpl. Fender" on "THE PHIL SILVERS SHOW", was a key member of his new cast, Phil was not able to repeat the success of his first series, even though he owned this {through his "Gladasya" production company} and had the production crew from "DOBIE GILLIS" working on it, and a powerful sponsor like General Foods sustaining the show on CBS...only 30 episodes were filmed.
