This video is blocked in some countries so must be doing something right!
This early slideshow is far from perfect but predicted years ahead of time the sub prime and stock market crashes and the increase in oil and food prices. The second half is still very relevant to the future. Images and text from the Unsustainable essay 2005. A preview of the original file was uploaded in Nov 2006 can be read here: http://www.esnips.com/doc/3792e725-185c-4dee-ac3c-79e10b7c2ebb/Unsustainable/...

  • Found this packed too much in to a short time. It was hard to read all the titles or grasp what some of the graphs, cartoons were about without using the pause button. I would have also liked some narration mixed in, and some moving images.

I liked the images and music went well with the subject.

  • It's coming. This was my first attempt, there was a ten minute upload limit so this version is actually 3 minutes faster than the original. The documentary is coming as soon as I have time. It expands on the main issues here, with interviews, clips and reports see the quickie documentary trailer above to get a sense of it. Best

  • ready to go

  • That's Godspeed You! Black Emperor, not Coheed and Cambria if anyone's interested.

  • It won't work if we stop developing it. And to develop it, we still need to use nuclear fission.

Beside, nuclear fission is now clean and safe.

  • Until then nuclear fusion is speculative...

and no knight in shining armour...

    But lets hope it works

  • In around 50 years time the first commercial fusion power plant should generate energy. By then we will hopefully know whether nuclear fusion really is as clean and safe as nuclear fission was reported to be before Sellafield and Chernobyl. Such a false estimation must never be allowed to happen again

  • That's why we should develop nuclear fusion (actually, we are using nuclear fission), which will be waste free.

  • Nuclear is not the solution as it is dangerous and where will you dump the waste...?

As ever on some poor sods door step.

  • YOU are the retarded one. Nuclear power is no god send. Chernobyl? Do we really want cities surrounded by radioactive power plants? Fall out would make living in a city span probably 15 years and you die from cancers all over your body. It's a dumb plan, people cannot think we can just fall back on nuclear. We need a sustainable energy source or go back to how it used to be. This will be an interesting century.

  • But within a century, the answer to pollution, poverty and an eventual lack of energy will be mastered. It's name is nuclear fusion, which should be fully mastered before the end of the 21th century. It will provide us an infinite amount of clean energy (no emissions except water) with no nuclear wastes. With infinite energy, there'll have no resource problems anymore and it'll be the end of scarcity and, thus, the end of poverty. But meanwhile, the poors should stay poors!

  • You're the stupid one. There is enough uranium on Earth to sustain our actual consumption rate for two centuries and enough coal for six centuries. Thus, the peak oil isn't the problem - and, beside, nuclear energy is a safe and clean energy when properly used. The problem is pollution and the needed poverty to prevent too much pollution.
