Shows some WIP pieces built from Hirst Arts molds. The pieces are designed to be used with 28mm models, and are additions for an arena I completed earlier this year. Included is some discussion of a gate I created to fit openings in the pieces, and shows the mold I developed to cast it.

For those of you who are wondering, this project marks my return to accepting custom work. :) I will be updating the Newsletter and website with information on this over the next few weeks. Visit TerranScapes.com for more into.

  • Just add some vine in the column corners. That'll give you your detail and keep the corner playable.

  • @CubicleKK Hmm. Interesting idea. I will give that some consideration. I guess I feel like the inside of the arena is too inhospitable for plants. :)

  • I've found, personally, that the bubbles kinda randomly through the mold is usually due to pour spout misplacement. I try to make my pour spouts on a side of the object being cast (so it flows down the spout and down one edge of the mold, keeping all (or almost all) the air above the resin at all times.

  • @oniakki Oooh. Good point. Hadn't considered that. If I can't get better casts out of it I will remold it with that in mind. :) Thanks!

  • Like the first one, love to see it with the grate. I like the second one also however would not a softer black help ie; blue and brown mixed together that would give the shadow effect a better depth. I have not done much casting but I think larger vent holes would help move the resin faster. Or joining smaller vents to a larger one if space is an issue. As always love your great work.

  • @437cosimo Thanks for the color thoughts. I will try out a couple and see what works best. On the venting, I have done just that and went back in and opened them up more and added a few more and it does seem to be helping. :)

  • personly i would go for a singal sidid mold so a one part mold rather than a 2 part mold

  • More vents have helped quite a bit. Still a few bubbles, but I should be able to get workable casts from it regularly now. :)

  • @SkHATEy Please feel free to skip the intro. :)

  • @sbaynenscc The rivets actually are casting fine. The bubbles are internal in straps of the gate. I'm adding some more vents and recasting it today. :)
