@Cirvantes123 You are right that Harper was against it, but you cant really blame him. Aside from this once-in-a-lifetime instance, a different banking system may be better. Also, if our system alone would actually "weather the recession", then the other parties should not have been scaring the public into believing we were going to enter one in the 2008 election.

@eminem4436 Hmm. Harper didn't keep Canada afloat exactly. The reason Canada weathered the recession as well as it did was because our banks were regulated (unlike nearly every other banking system in the world), which Harper opposed tooth and nail when he was in opposition. The huge surplus the Liberals left behind helped a bit too =)
