  • MSC does an excellence job helping large fisheries identify themselves as sustainable, but what about micro-fisheries that slip through the cracks? Check out Lummi Island Wild for a great example of an ultra-sustainable wild salmon fishery. They just launched the first solar powered fishing vessel in the world!

  • The MSC programme is open to all fisheries, regardless of size. 26 fisheries are certified as meeting the MSC standard for sustainability, among these there is great diversity in their scale. Two certified small scale fisheries are the Hastings, UK fishery and the Mexican Baja lobster fishery. Recently we developed Guidance for the assessment of small-scale and data-deficient fisheries to engage these fisheries. Five fisheries are undergoing pilot assessments using these guidelines.
