Canada's government has been in crisis since last week, when a coalition of the three major left parties vowed to call a confidence vote to unseat recently re-elected Conservative Prime Minister Stephen Harper. The coalition was formed after Harper's minority government announced a budget that would cut public financing in the face of the economic crisis. On the eve of the vote, however, the Queen's representative in Canada bowed to Harper's plea to suspend Parliament, effectively giving him six weeks to draft a new budget that will appease both sides. No Parliament and turmoil on both the conservative and liberal sides of government: what's next for Canada?
Queen of England?? Er, there hasn't been a Queen of England since Anne died in 1707. The Governor General represents the Queen of Canada; the monarch's role as Queen of the UK has nothing to do with it.
Next time, try a little something called research.
