My name is Kassidy Foster and I was 12-year-old sixth grader at Check Elementary School. I was also a level 7 gymnast at Virginia Techniques Gymnastics and a member of Faith Fellowship Church.
On Thursday, March 29, 2007, I was diagnosed with osteosarcoma - the most common type of bone cancer. The doctors have found cancerous cells on my right femur near the knee and close to my hip. They've also found cancerous cells in my chest between my heart and lungs.
I started chemotherapy on April 4th. The doctors said I would need 40 weeks of treatments that would end in December. My main tumor was on my right knee. At first the treatments appeared to be working ...but they were not. On May 3rd, I had to have my right leg amputated up to my hip. I returned to Roanoke to continue my treatments. No matter what type of chemotherapy my doctors gave me, my cancer continued to grow throughout my body.
On July 9th, I went on my Make-a-Wish trip to California where I was treated like a movie star, rode in limousine and got treated with a day of shopping. I returned home on Thursday July 12th where I started having difficulty breathing. My parents took me to the hospital on July13th, and I went to Heaven on July16th.
