finally got my Acer Aspire One 751h to play high definition videos and high quality youtube videos, all in full screen.
when i first got this computer (beginning of august 2009) it just could not play videos at all, even 640X480 WMV videos, especially in full screen. i tried everything, and eventually got some low quality video to play in full screen, but youtube was still not even playable in low quality full screen. basically i was pretty limited to low quality youtube videos that showed up about the same size as an iphone's screen.
however, about 2 weeks ago i was randomly surfing the web, and decided to just look up GMA 500 for the heck of it (i'd looked it up constantly before, so i pretty much gave up hope). i clicked on a random link that brought me to a forum. the forum said that he new intel driver had a typo in it, and the computer recognized it as an older driver. i immediately had a glimmer of hope, so i went straight to the intel site. i'd downloaded the driver before, and it indeed had said every time that it was an older driver. i opted to install it anyway, and wah-la. i could play youtube videos in full screen.
afterward i did a lot of research and came across a either a video or a forum (i don't remember which) that said you could play high def videos on the gma 500. after some research again, i found that Cyberling Power DVD enabled hardware acceleration on the GMA 500. i used power DVD and it played videos from my HD camera (the one used to make this video) perfectly. so i went on to download the highest quality video i could find from youtube and test it out.
all in all, that pretty much led up to this. i can now actually use my netbook to watch HD videos.

anyway sorry about the dirty screen. up until recently, all this netbook was used for was for school work, e-mail, and music. now all i have to do is find a good screen cleaner, because now i can't stand all the little spots on it. i think it also didn't help that my sister tried to wipe it off with her sleeve.

oh, and 80th video! yay! still need to get to that 100th video mark. i went riding over the winter break so expect some good videos coming. i just need to find a good video editor and i can start editing the loads of video i have saved up.

computer tech specs:
Acer Aspire One 751h
screen size - 11.6", 1366x768 pixels
250gb hard drive
2gb ddr2 ram
cpu - intel atom z520 processor, 1.33ghz
windows vista experience index: 2.7 (cpu lowest subscore)
um... well not much to a netbook. i guess that's all that really matters to this video.

  • i didn't see you zoom into the youtube video and show us that its was 720p… that you was playing :-)

  • @01Commenter10 Yeah my camera wasn't too capable of showing the quality. My new camera is though.

  • finally got the thing to make the yotuube 720 reso vids playable, its the flash software install Flash Player 10.1 Beta 3 which is the first version i think and itll fix the youtube 720 viewing problem

  • @zoom26 hmm, i tried installing the same exact thing and it didn't improve youtube at all. however, i'm pretty sure i messed up.

  • so it could be just youtube? havent actually tried divx yet, divx is considered as HD content right?

  • @zoom26 HD content is mainly considered by its resolution and framerate. 1280x720 (720p) and higher (1080i, 1080p) is true HD. the GMA500 is perfectly capable of 720p, and with updates, is theoretically capable of 1080p.

  • umm, go to my videos and you'll see my netbook playing youtube HD even @ 1080

  • make sure its 10.1 beta 3 because from my powerpoint like video experience it improved to watchable though at near 100% cpu usage

  • @zoom26 HD videos as in recorded from an HD camcorder, downloaded from youtube, or yeah ripped content.
