They need IR goggles man. They cost like $10 and save ur eyes from being fried. Believe me IR radiation in the eyes will make you hurt.

I expected a much bigger flash when you inoculated the iron. I did it on 2.5 ton ladles and the flash would blind you even with goggles, I would stand behind an Ibeam to dump the top ladle as the radiation from the mix would cook anyone in range. This is a school? Impressive. In a shop, two guys would do all this. The work I did has now been automated.

think there's no need to be worried about safety.. as far as i have been in the casting industry i'd say this was a cold cast so there cannot be any chance of getting burned. unless you drink it. after all that's some noob action with a max. 150 kg ladley.. if it ain't a school project then i feel sorry for you mates!

It is my understanding that when looking at molten metals that the UV radiation is dangerous to the eyes. Secondly that shop does not look safe in the sense of clean air supply and exhaust of foundry fumes. Lastly standard blue jeans and school shoes will really be bad when molten metal lands on your foot. Not a safe situation. Who's in charge? who is taking responsibility for these young men, and their safety? When they get hurt you are responsible.
