Memories of Antarctica - Disappearing World

Made to honour International Polar Year, this movie is intended to inspire people to take a small step to save our planet. The photos were taken in February 2002 when I participated in Mission Antarctica's cleanup of 1000 tons of waste on King George Island. We toured aboard a 67-ft sailboat in the pristine waters of the Antarctic Peninsula. I showed this video recently at our local Multicultural Day celebration and people there wrote down their promises - a small step that they will take to prevent our world from disappearing. The promises appear in the credits.

nice vid but fail to see a 'dissapearing world' fact is that Antartica and the Southern hemispher as a whole have been cooling...i just dont get all the unfounded hype...

Hi, thanks for the comment. Although overall Antarctica is cooling, my pictures were taken near the Antarctic peninsula, which is warming at an alarming rate.

There is a temperature trend map which clearly shows this at the NASA earthobservatory website. So the world I depict in my video is, in fact, a Disappearing World.

Thanks for the pledge! I wish I could manage to do without a vehicle too, but there is no public transit where we live. So I vow to replace my current model with a fuel efficient hybrid, hopefully next year.
