This was a candlelight vigil held in my home town, we lit candles in memory of people affected by domestic and family violence.
During January to March 2009
.CONTACTS MADE TO DOMESTIC VIOLENCE SERVICE RE INCIDENTS
9,739 NEW CLIENTS/INCIDENTS
6,881 WERE FEMALE
7,583 INVOLVED A SPOUSE
4,700 WERE IN REGARD TO VIOLENCE IN A PRESENT RELATIONSHIP
682 INVOLVED PARENTS AND VIOLENCE TO OR BY CHILDREN
18 INVOLVED GRANDPARENTS AND VIOLENCE TO OR BY CHILDREN
Many incidents of domestic & family violence are not reported due to:
fear / threats from perpetrator towards victim and/or family, extended family and pets
confused care for the perpetrator : I dont want to get them into troubleI still love them
It usually takes 7 times of threatening to leave before a woman finally leaves a violent or abusive relationship.
