I remember watching this very documentary as a kid - and Inside Story also did a similar doc a few years before this one about the Intercity Network - I'd love to see that one again!

I did training at eastleigh in 1980 & we were down on the track & were being shown how to pull a hook switch, I can tell you having trains passing you down the track is bloody scary & being so close to the live third rail..

I think this was an exellent program just a program then but something of this countrys great history now good to look back on...
