This is the remains of Krematorium 2 at Auschwitz-Birkenau. This gas chamber killed around half a million people in 1943-1944 reaching a peak during the deportation of people from Hungary in May - June 1944.
More people were killed at this spot than anywhere else on the globe. Unfortunately as can be seen it is not protected against the elements although suggestions have been made to put a canopy or something similar over it.
Gas chambers two and three were made in a mirror image of each other at the head of the rail line which was laid to bring people due to be murdered directly to the point of death. Previously they had been unloaded at a siding around 2.5km from here and brought to this point either on foot or in lorries.
Prior to the construction of the gas chambers, people had been murdered in two houses located just outside the barbed wire fence called the red house and the white house.

I have placed many films of the holocaust on this site including interviews with witnesses.

Those interested should see also the films on Treblinka, Belzec, Sobibor, Chelmno nad Ner and Majdanek. These camps are much less known that Auschwitz although they account for nearly twice as many Jewish deaths.

You can find these films by clicking on user's films (Od użytkownika) or by entering the name of these camps in the search engine.

During the second world war some six million Jewish people were murdered by the Nazis by gassing, shooting, starvation, deliberate spreading of disease or by other means. Around half of these victims were killed, mainly at these six camps in Poland.

My channel on you tube : http://www.youtube.com/alanheath is one of the most prolific from Poland, although unfortunately not the most visited. With almost one film per day, one may be forgiven for thinking I do nothing else but I do have a day job as well. I have produced more than 400 original films, most in English but also in Polish, French, Italian, Spanish and the occassional hint of German and Hebrew. My big interest in life is travel and history but I have also placed films on other subjects

Please feel free to ask questions in the public area or to comment on things you disagree with. Sometimes there are mistakes because I speak without preparation. If I see the mistakes myself, I make this clear in the text. Please also leave a star rating!

There are a number of films here on the packaging industry. This is because I am the publisher of Central and Eastern European Packaging -- http://www.ceepackaging.com - the international platform for the packaging industry in this region focussing on the latest innovations, trends, design, branding, legislation and environmental issues with in-depth profiles of major industry achievers. Most people may think packaging pretty boring but it possibly effects your life more than you really imagine!

Central and Eastern European Packaging examines the packaging industry throughout this region, but in particular in the largest regional economies which are Russia, Germany, Poland, Czech Republic, Ukraine and Austria. That is not to say that the other countries are forgotten, they are not, but obviously there is less going on. However the fact that there are so many travel related films here is not from holidays but from business trips attending trade fairs around the region and the sites http://www.ceepackaging.com/articles/events/ and http://www.ceepackaging.com/articles/agenda/ give a pretty good idea where future films are going to come from! Every packaging trade fair is a new excuse to make another film!

In 1997 I founded Polish Business News http://www.pbn.com.pl .There are a number of business related films here and I intend to do many more on CRM (customer relations management).

My blog can be found via http://www.ceepackaging.com and http://www.pbn.com.pl and contains background information and more details of many of my films. This information is in English.

I have also a second blog on the site http://www.navigeo.net/blog/alan-heath-blog . This site has been recently started by a friend and I think it will soon be one of the leading travel sites in Poland, if not Central Europe. It contains additional information about some of the places and events shown in these films but most of that is in Polish.

  • Another very informative video, Alan, and thank you. Am I correct in thinking that the chambers of Kremas 2 and 3 were the same size, and that there were two chambers in each building? And were Kremas 4 and 5 identical, or were they smaller? I've been trudging my way through several documents, but they are rather vague as to the exact size and layout of the buildings.

  • @alanheath Thanx for that. I must admit that I was "shocked" when I first got a computer and started watching Holocaust vids and seen the denier comments that were in complete contradiction to what I could see right in front of my eyes. I personally find it quite disgusting that people would post these things on these videos, in many cases posted by the survivors themselves. Anyway, thanx for your videos, Cheers and Merry Christmas from Maryland, USA.

  • @riotskater4 In the first place WHO misses that (except possibly you)? In the second, what has that got to do with this video other than the fact that Stalin and Hitler started the war together? And in the third, Stalin did not kill 50m people - unless you are counting those that died in WW2 which Stalin helped the Nazis start.

  • @alanheath Stalin killed 30 - 50 million people and people seem to miss that

  • @clintonearlwalker I think they need to blame someone for their own failures in life. It is not them so it must be a conspiracy against them. I cannot think of any other reason.

  • @alanheath I find the amount of hatred direct toward "Jews" to be staggering. I've only ever known of one "Jew" in my personal life, and that was in about 1970. Maybe it's a European thing, while there is much racism and hatred in the US, most of it isn't directed at Jews, at least not to the point of gas chambers. The internet is a different story though, as it covers most of the world. Sometimes these deniers, haters, liars, just make me angry with their nonsense and spam.

  • @clintonearlwalker The thing about the internet is that it is open to everyone. In normal life we do not come into contact with people who have mental health issues, racists and others. However the internet brings us into contact with them. For racists, the only thing that matters is their own illogical hatred and if it is necessary to ignore the truth that does not matter. Then there are those that will argue night is day. Fortunately these nutters are a tiny - if vociferous - minority.

  • @clintonearlwalker Well done! This book has a very limited run and was quite rare. Pressac had been a holocaust denier and he went to Auschwitz to prove that it did not happen and he ended up writing this book. That is why no denier liar has ever done any research again!

  • For anyone interested, I found and read most of the book "Auschwitz: Technique and Operation of the Gas Chambers by Jean-Claude Pressac" for free online. It is very dry reading with most of it based on construction blueprints. Apparently, when the Nazi's evacuated the camp, many of the documents at "Auschwitz Zentral Bauleiting" (construction office) were not destroyed. Details about cracks in flue liners due to over use, bitumen based "damp proofing" causing delays, etc.

  • @JimmyBoi2 What do you think Krematorien were for? Obviously they were for cremating corpses. Other tales are tales.

  • Those who are denying: what the heck were these buildings FOR, anyway? Arts and crafts?
