Congressman Huelskamp engaged the Rev. Al Sharpton over the issue of current tax rates and whether or not it's "fair" that millionaires and billionaires are allegedly taxed at a lower rate than others. The Congressman argued that the top 1% pay the plurality of all taxes in America, and that the real issue is promoting opportunity and not class envy, citing that his constituents tend to care more about having the ability to find a job and make it on their own rather than what their neighbors' incomes may or may not be.

  • @maconsumner I don't think its fair that we have to pay for these wars, we have to pay for bad bets in wall st and for the big banks which total over 8 trillion in bailouts

  • LoL, I wonder if Rev. Al even knows what capital gains is... in fact, I'm insulted that he even continues to carry a title of Reverend. Makes all the legit ones look bad... When he can ask a fair question that'd be great too.

  • Its unfortunate, but Rev. Al is twisting the truth and nobody is telling the truth! The truth is that there is no way anyone in this country can pay a tax lower than the IRS states. Just because someone is in the 35% tax bracket doesnt mean he pays 35% in taxes! With a good accountant and tax deductions, you to could be paying a net amount less than the tax rate stated by the IRS.

  • Wow! White dude's devil spilled out. Can't even answer the question with a yes or no. Sad.

  • Great job, Congressman.

  • Damn, there are some stupid people here.

  • OMG, “is it fair that a CEO pays a lower tax rate than his secretary” or “is it retarded that Obama and this asshole actually believe that bullshit” Al Sharpton, what a complete hypocritical retard. Why is MSNBC completely irrelevant? Idiots like Sharpton.

  • Politicians sure know how to redirect questions, lol.

  • @aaronmoravek

When the wealthy pays the income tax and then the capital gains tax they then pay one at the rate and the other after the initiial payment of capitial gains when it was past in the bill.

I will say that they do pay more than them and when they do they should pay equal to them. But if they dont pay the same them they should pay say that they dont pay as much as they do. And when they say they dont pay at 15%, then 100% of them should pay the same initial tax as them!!!

  • @idiotfinder911 the wealthy pay the most income tax, the 15% comes from capital gains tax meaning they probably found a loop hole to make it look like he already payed income tax and then used that money to invest in the stock market any net increasing from the supposedly taxed income is 15%
