I was fooling around one day and i discovered this cool trick! Note: Uh...I guess this is bad for the motors so don't do it!

it works on its own, no mods

this works because a motor can also work as a generator thus powering the other motor or i have made it power lights

besides to know if it messes up the motors, just run it with batteries and see what happens if its messed up or not.
