Thinking about replacing IBM Query/400 with the new DB2 Web Query software? New Generation Software, Inc. (NGS) and award winning speaker, consultant and entertainer Randall Munson have teamed up to help you understand IBM's licensing terms and compare DB2 Web Query and NGS' own NGS-IQ query, reporting, and business intelligence software. We hope you enjoy this humorous and informative video that explains named user vs. concurrent user licensing for query development. Then, visit www.ngsi.com and read NGS' Query/400 Replacement Plan and Things You Should Know About DB2 Web Query. For more information, please call NGS at 800.824.1220

  • On January 29, three weeks after this video was first posted, IBM announced that while only named users can write queries with DB2 Web Query, they will soon offer "run-only" user licenses. Please visit NGS's website for the latest details.

NGS offers the flexibility of concurrent user licensing for query developers and runners as well as other benefits.

  • This is a humorous way to attack a competitor, as stated previously, I have heard that IBM is going to,very shortly, change its user licensing scheme making these statements from NGS invalid. What is interesting is that NGS has a website that MISREPRESENTS the TRUTH about this product (e.g., "you have to rename all your files"). So who really is telling the TRUTH?.

  • We do not know what IBM may, or may not announce in the future. Our materials are accurate and we will keep them current if things change. The statement mentioned above does not appear on the NGS Website. It's also not referenced in this video. The IBM Redbook says you must create synonym names for all DB2 for i5/OS files. To make field names friendlier to end-users requires a separately licensed Windows tool. A link to the IBM Redbook is included on our website.

  • Why are you denying that you stated this? Here is the exact NGS statement which can be found all over System i network website and email distribution:

"Excited about DB2 Web Query? Read the IBM Redbook and then ask: Do I have time to rename all our files before we can query them?"

  • Some explanation is required. The System i News Daily e-newsletter this viewer references inadvertently published an outdated ad that NGS had replaced with new materials. Unfortunately, once something is in print or distributed via e-mail, it's beyond our control. We encourage people to read the content on our web site and the IBM Redbook. You can access the Redbook from a link on our site.

  • "To make field names friendlier to end-users requires a separately licensed Windows tool."

Wrong again - the synonym files live in the IFS can easily be edited with any PC text editor or even with the CL command EDTF.

  • We encourage those with an interest in this to read the IBM Redbook. A link to the Redbook is available on our website.

  • I know nothing about Data Bases or queries. But seeing Chip Wood get wacked in the head with a bat and dress in drag, well that's just goofy fun!

  • Very funny! I won't soon forget how to compare these 2 products. I've read IBM's Redbooks and they certainly don't explain things this well. Well done!
