There is a proper etiquette for resting silverware, learn all about proper dinner etiquette in this free video.
Expert: Marianne Johanson
Bio: Marianne Johanson was born in Stockholm Sweden, where she was taught various types of etiquette in boarding school.
Filmmaker: Nolen Quinn
She has no comprehension of the formal dining service code. In the American style of dining, at rest you place the knife and fork in an upside down v-position at the 5:00 position tines facing up. When you are finished eating you place the fork and knife together (knife on right) tines of fork up at 10:20 position. For the European style of dining when you are at rest you place the knife and fork in an upside down V, fork tines down. And when you are finished eating same 10:20 with tines down.

What kind of idiot would put dirty utensils back on the table?
Really, I'd like to know, because the whole point of this video was to show that it's wrong.
