@switzercraftbullet Churchill was the scumbag. No, de valera did not get collins shot, thats a common myth. Dont insult someone as great as De Valera, he might have made mistakes but he waas a great spokesman for Ireland and especially dont insult De Valera while theres British Loyalists viewing this video, use your head and wake up.

@coolsdon ireland wasnt as neutral as u think. relations of mine and i know alot of people who had grandads great uncles ect.died in war fighting the germans.

@sandyrow100 fuck off back to sandy row you dirty unionist idiot

@coolsdon Ireland had its own problems to deal with. Also it didn't seem like the best plan to go fight with the same army that has terrorized your country and be treated like shit by them. For an Irish man in the 1940s, the British and the Nazis were much the same.

@jratt2 ,i fail to see how UK/France fighting the Third Reich was to protect national interests. The war effectively ended Britain`s time as a top power, and made her bankrupt.
Surely Britain and France were right to declare war on Hitler,no one , Ireland would not prosper from Germany ruling over the continent,i know Ireland wanted to walk a different path from the UK`s but maybe sometimes it`s better to pitch in with the devil you know ,don`t you think?

@bazzatheblue Except of course that the Germans claimed parts of Poland like the Soviets. It was Hitlers plans to expand east that bothered the two traditional powers of Europe as the Germans were empire building. It appears therefore that they declared war to protect their own national interests.
If it was just another tiff between great powers, it sound like a rather ignoble affair. Why should Eire have joined in? And why shouldn't Eire also act in its own interest?
@paddycentered Listening to DeValera speak just reminds me of the hypocracy this US citizen. A "brave" man who used his US citizenship to save himself from being executed. In fact most Irish-Americans arehypocrites as they either passively or actively supported the repression and murder of Native Americans who incidentally did not receive US citenzenship until the 1960s, there was also the involvement in the support of slavery

@paddycentered Irelands neutrality was smart? Yeah right. How about cowardly and oportunistic? Churchill more than any other leader realized the HUGE threat posed from Hitlers National Socialism and saw it early on. He acted on it by taking Germany on and declaring war (with France) over Poland and was vinicated by the Allies destruction of the Nazi war machine. What did Ireland do?,sit on it's hands and look the other way.Keep your 'Plastic Paddy' view of the world to that side of the Atlantic!
