**************************

'The Innocent and the Thunderbolt' was written in direct response to the government cuts to Arts funding and under the guidance of former RSC playwright-in-residence (and company patron), Tarell Alvin McCraney ('The Brother/Sister Plays', 'American Trade). The play follows the funny, tragic and -- at times -- deplorable day to day lives of professional muses, Patti Blewitt and Jude Reed. Originally appointed by the gods to inspire artists, writers and singers to paint, write and sing their praises, the millennia old Muses now inspire for personal profit. But in a contemporary London, the combined efforts of a (deceased) indie rock star, a tempestuous Aphrodite, a girl who mistakes 'The Kama Sutra' for a curry, a tramp with no legs and rapidly aging Greek gods, bring questions of fame, lust, love, hunger, divine interference and memory into play in this dynamic new work.

Actor Edward Davis leads a 13-strong cast as 'Jude' (the 'Thunderbolt' of the title) following various acting roles at Hampstead Theatre ('Living off the Land,' 'Grace') as well as training at the National Theatre and RADA. Also amongst the cast are singer-songwriter Katie Caddick, who lends her musical talents to the production. Ginterval Theatre itself is made up of graduates and undergraduates from The University of Warwick, following a successful production of Shakespeare's 'Antony and Cleopatra' -- 'Ginterval,' a newly coined word that encompasses the spirit (pun very much intended) of thought, of play, of innovation behind this exciting young company.

About the writer: Joshua Elliott is a London-born playwright, director and one half of Ginterval Theatre currently studying English and Theatre Studies at The University of Warwick. This is his first work in a professional theatre, following successes at the CAPITAL New Works Festival and Warwick Student Arts Festival with his earlier play, 'The Weaker Pulse.'

About the director: Clare Byrne is a director and playwright from Buckinghamshire. Clare is currently studying Politics and International Studies at The University of Warwick following a year abroad working for NBC in New York. Clare is the other half of Ginterval, co-directing 'Antony and Cleopatra' in the Warwick Arts Centre and directing her own adaptation of TC Boyle's 'The Lie' for The Institute of Advanced Teaching and Learning (IATL).
