Former Light Heavyweight world champion, Chad Dawson, from the United States, visited Mexico City and asked World Boxing Council President, Jose Sulaiman, the opening of the organization´s doors once again, in virtue of the fact that the only world champion belt he wants is the WBC green and gold belt.
Chad Dawson was joined by his exclusive promoter, Gary Shaw, as well as by his lifelong manager, Mike Criscio, who addressed the organization expressing their loyalty and desire to have their champion come back to the World Boxing Council, his home.
President Sulaiman, on behalf of the World Boxing Council, approved the fight for the Interim world title that Dawson will take part in, against the also American fighter, Glenn Johnson, whom Dawson had fought, in a close and controversial defense of his title, being now the upcoming fight, a very awaited rematch.
Chad Dawson had conquered the WBC Youth world title in 2003, and later won the North American Boxing Federation title in 2006, becoming world champion in 2007, when he faced former champion Tomasz Adamek. Subsequently Dawson defended his title three times.
