I do not subscribe to Dante's view of Hell, thus the 9th Circle, the lowest level containing betrayers, is used here for cognitive effect. To me, Hell is a separation from the Love of God ... the point is that Dante placed treachery at an even lower level than that of violent offenders ... and perhaps that because betrayal often times lay prevalent in covert, rather than overt actions and can have such a long lasting deep and devastating effect on the betrayed; but even most acts involving betrayal can, and should, be forgiven to accept the healing comfort that forgiveness brings. For the record, I do not condemn anyone to Hell as Dante did with just about everyone that walked/s the earth. Faith is a personal sojourn -- between the Creator and the created ... Each According to the Dictates of his own Conscience, as Rockwell portrayed in his artwork.
"A betrayer is one who knows your heart and has ripped into that heart and ripped out that heart by exposing and exploiting your vulnerabilities. Betrayal is the stealing and attempted destruction of the human heart." (Bill Long)
"Anything may be betrayed, anyone may be forgiven, but not those who lack the courage of their own greatness." (Ayn Rand)
"One should rather die than be betrayed. There is no deceit in death. It delivers precisely what it has promised. Betrayal, though ... betrayal is the willful slaughter of hope."(Steven Deitz)
"Never cease loving a person, and never give up hope for him, for even the prodigal son who had fallen most low, could still be saved, the bitterest enemy and also he who was your friend could again be your friend, love that has grown cold can kindle." (Soren Kierkegaard)
"Et tu Brute?" (Julius Caesar)
"Judas, are you betraying the Son of Man with a kiss?" (Jesus)
