Here's a quick peek at John Park demonstrating how to use a motor from an old VCR and use it to drive a automated cat feeder. Be sure to watch it in HD!

Check it out above, or get the M4V and/or subscribe in iTunes.

Don't forget, MAKE: premieres in January on Public Television and online at www.makezine.tv.

  • @1ruben123 poor keteeh

  • for as how much my cat eats i would sugest a bigger hopper for the food to go in

  • This'd scare the crap out of my cat.

  • It uses the VCR's timer. You set a time and it starts pouring while you're gone.

  • Ehhhm maby a little low tec.... but how about a bigger bowl ?

  • What about Water?!!!!!!

  • nope, it's powered by the vcr motor, so all you have to do is set the record timer to record everyday at the same time. No resetting it.

  • Oooh, I know how it works! You get one of the VCR's that can have timed recordings, then set the recording to the point that the tape runs out, then the VCR automatically rewinds!
