After a year of rehabilitation, a red-tailed hawk is once again flying high over Chatham-Kent.
The raptor was rescued by an OPP officer last October after being hit by a transport truck on Highway 40.
Yesterday it was released back into the wild by the woman who nursed it back to health, Joanne Siddall of Maynard Avian Rehabilitation Centre.
Ill miss her but Im really glad for her, Siddall said before letting the animal go.
She said the bird of prey had a fractured wing, split beak and head injuries when it was brought to the centre.
She came in comatose . . . she wasnt able to eat on her own, Siddall said.
It has taken a whole year for her beak to heal.
