If you google "trip and serial numbers" you should be able to find out its approx production date .

  • Right ive tried that and the lens (iris) seems fixed no matter what f number i set ? So would you say its most likely the iris that is stuck ?

  • @shonkstar

Yes i would say that it is. The scissor blades were coated in a thin machine oil at the factory but this becomes thick then the blades stick. You need to clean it off, after which the blades should work as normal. You can also apply some graphite powder if your worried about them sticking again.

Once you have the camera stripped down you can test the light meter needle to see if it working, Just follow a guide and take your time.

  • Hi ive got an old Trip and it has the same problem that your newer model has ie: it still fires when you cover the lens in "A" mode. How easy / hard is it to strip one of these camera's down and what tools do i need ? Is there anyway of knowing if its the shutter blades or the light cell that has failed before i take it apart. If it is the light cell how can i repair it. Thanks Fred

  • @shonkstar

The Trip comes apart very easy and you only need micro screwdriver's. I have not stripped one down in ten years but as i rem you have to mark the correct placement for the lens BEFORE you remove it otherwise you lose the focus. There are a few good guides if you Google and i would suggest some reading first. Its hard to check the selenium cell before hand. Take it off "A" and fire some shots at different f numbers while you look into the lens. Is the iris opening & closing

  • Ok thanks Fred. Iam working on the Halina 3000 at the moment as it seems a far more simple design. Thanks for the info. :-)
