This song is titled after the late great John "Chief" Latimer, former director of Kilcoo Camp, and father of current Director David Latimer. It became tradition, while I was piano player at Kilcoo, to play this song after the closing banquet during the Canoe Pageant and Candle Light ceremony. We would bring "Sophie" the piano outside to the Landstaff porch, plug'r'in, watch the canoes criss cross wakes and light a fire on the water, see a word that captured the summer emblazoned on a piece of chicken wire strung between two 4x4s held by two Kilcoo Braves on the Sail Docks, Lub would say a few words, then I would begin. Always one of my favourite moments at Kilcoo.

  • Hey beautiful song. I'm glad new traditions carry on at Kilcoo. For those that know me I was Haachhh, the waterfront director, and probably played evil at grand council more than most. (19 times). Love the picture and the song.

  • @waylanderca Hey thanks Haachhh! One of my earlier memories at Kilcoo is of you, is when you told the whole lodge the "Canadian Soldier asks the German Soldier what rank he is"-Joke in full on Hebrew. Very awesome. Hope all is well with you. Rip Ram.
