In fact, he's one of the 4 pillars of contemporary gospel drums in terms of influence: in no particular order 1) Joel Smith 2) Jefflo Davis 3) Dana Davis 4) Gerald Heyward...of course there are others but these four are widely recognized as four of the most influential especially in terms of the way gospel drummers play nowadays. Pretty sick especially considering that it's hard to find any vids of Joel on drums. But the song "Oh, Happy Day" is Joel on drums @ about 12.

Keep it real; the Gouch has the better bass skills, but overall, I love Joel Smith. I remember back in the day him killin the bass and drums! Finger lickin good!
