This is the original mixed version of "What Makes You Happy" that Liz presented to Atlantic Records. They rejected this version, so she went back and did it over...which is the version that appears on the Whitechocolatespaceegg album that we know today.

It's unfortunate, because if you ask me, this version surpasses the album version.

  • You guys are crazy. It's pretty obvious why they rejected this version.

  • @Guncho06 Lol! Personally, in all honesty, in my humble opinion, in truth and under oath THIS IS PROBABLY HER WORST SONG OF ALL TIME.

  • I liked it for the first few measures, but when the bass and drums come in, that's when the song didn't sound right. I would've liked the song if she stuck with the mellow sound. But the rock-ish sounds seems awkward.

  • Right, I see what you mean now. This is the only song I don't like from the album, but NOT because I think it's a bad song.

I just think she should have kept the quirky electronic-type thing out of the chorus. It's awkward. But whatever...lol

  • Now that you've got me thinking about it, the only reason I like the song is because it's a song about trying to convince your mother that the guy you love is an all right guy, but it sounds like she's really trying to convince herself, and her mother knows it.

She should've dispensed with the rock sound altogether and stuck with the mellowness of the songs like "Headache," "Uncle Alvarez," and "Perfect World." Whitechocolatespacegg would've been much better without the rock-sounding songs.

  • Well, an album needs flavor, you know?

I think this album is really inconsistent, like it kinda just has songs all over the place. "Big Tall Man","Only Son" and "Johnny Feelgood" fit perfectly on the album, but "Fantasize" and "Go On Ahead" just seem like total album filler to me.

  • I really like this version.

  • Sounds like a demo. I like demos. I also like Wood's production on the album version - a whole LOT.

  • I like both versions. I like Liz. That is all.

  • @lucystonerrr Well not "the best," clearly, but my favorite. I enjoy the lyrics and the message, and I think it's the kind of song Liz does well. No one can dissect relationships like she can.

  • @Guncho06 I think this is the best song on the album, too, ha!

  • @madeyes4u Well it's personal preference right? It's probably my favorite song on the album.
