Bottles litter the landscape of the island, residents continue to burn their waste in fire pits, and few initiatives exist to entice responsible handling of waste. D'Arcey Crooks of Protect the Environment Trust (PET) details the process of recycling plastic, as well as the dangers that plastic waste poses to the environment of Jamaica.
Ya mon. Even in Negril(I just got back) you will smell trash/plastic burning. I believe most locals don't know how dangerous this burning really is.Burning plastic causes dioxin.Cancer causer. It can get into the water supply, food supply, fish, people, etc.Especially bad for the kids. How about washing and reusing plastic shopping bags, etc. Anyone with knowledge to help this problem, please help Jamaica. It's beautiful island and needs desperate help now!
