from when is this vid ? sounds like something from the 80s ... half the bunkai is missing but what's there isn't bad. It'd be difficult for the viewer if they crammed too much bunkai in there so i guess it's ok as it is ... kata is different to the current empi but in my opinion is still not that close to the original .... anyone got any links for some really old empi vids ? would really appreciate ! Oss

@acerwk this bunkai is most acurate to kata, ive seen many variations, they just made it easier for u and likes of u to understand it. If he would of wanted more combat like bunkai then you would be like" :O wheres that in kata and why is he moving there" etc.

This bunkai is crap.who on earth will attack you with oi-tsuki and then wait for you to counter?Or even worst,step back oi-tsuki?wtf?????

Thanks very much for posting this. I'm doing some light reading up on Enpi. Had a quick look at Wansu as well. So far so interesting! I'm SKIF affiliated. I noticed last night at an ASK dojo that Kancho Kanazawa has a peculiar way of doing "Empi/Enpi". During the Teisho uchi where the left foot is brought to the centre and right foot goes forward (@3:28). Kanazawa doesn't do this and instead brings the Right foot all the way from back to centre to forward. Other SKIF seem to be doing the same.

They don't come much harder than Yahara! Old school JKA,how times have changed, ego+ politics+money=100% DISASTER.....shame really because anyone who's anyone in Shotokan all read from the same sheet in the beginning now they cannot even speak to one another!
