"Vortex" is a large-scale photo-mural. It presents a group of human figures, nearly all of them fully dressed, floating in water amid a profusion of plastic detritus. The complexity of detail of the high-resolution image emerges, in particular in the individualized expressivity of the figures who appear to be overwhelmed by the accumulation of garbage and waste that surrounds them and against which each, unaided by the rest, seems to be struggling for survival. Thus Vortex, beyond its visual appeal and technical accomplishment, also serves as an emblem of the danger posed to our planet by our acceptance of inherited attitudes toward consumption and waste.
