2011 Year in Review - Delaware National Guard

During 2011, the Delaware National Guard participated in deployments overseas and domestic operations. In 2011, over 500 soldiers and airmen deployed overseas to support operations in multiple countries to include Germany and Afghanistan.

In 2011...

-1049th Transportation Company deployed in support of Operation Enduring Freedom - Afghanistan.

-166th Security Forces Squadron, 166th Civil Engineer Squadron, 166th Maintenance and Operations Groups and the 142nd Aeromedical Evacuation Squadron all deployed overseas.

-Delaware Air National Guard firefighters deployed overseas.

-Since 2011, DANG has completed over 10,000 combat missions overseas.

-126th Medical Company (Air Ambulance) deployed to Afghanistan.

-Det. 7, Operations and Airlift deployed and earned air medals and bronze stars.

-Six DEARNG soldiers deployed to Afghanistan with the 184th Expeditionary Sustainment Command.

-More than 400 soldiers and airmen deployed to support local Delaware residents and agencies during and after Hurricane Irene struck the state.

-DNG War on Hunger; supporting the Food Bank of Delaware

-Veterans Day fly overs

-287th Army Band performed throughout the state that includes performances at the Separation Day parade, 4th of July celebration and the holiday concert at the Grand Opera House in Wilmington.

-160th Engineer Company and 150th Engineer Company annual training at Fort Indiantown Gap, Pa.

-262nd Component Repair Company (262nd CRC) - weekend training

-Counterdrug Task Force - Camp DEFY

-Vice President Joe Biden and Dr. Jill Biden visits the 261st TTSB (261st Signal Brigade).

-New buildings: Army Aviation Support Facility and the Aircraft Maintenance Hangar.

-Broke ground on the New Castle Armed Forces Reserve Center - future home of the Delaware National Guard's Joint Force Headquarters

-Capt. Daniel Deflaviis awarded both the DEARNG Robert Kirkwood Leadership Award, and the General Douglas MacArthur Leadership Award.

-MG George K. Hastings -Excellence in Training Units award

-Fastest Pay in the entire Air National Guard awared to an airmen in the DANG.

-OCS and NCO Hall of Fame inductees
