Im not to familiar with surfing in general, so could someone explain to me if being hit by a wave as its coming down on you is harmful or possibly deadly? Or will it just shove you under the water.

Nar it will just shove you under the water, spin you around as if your locked in a washing machine, maybe dump you onto the bottom and then as you struggle for what sometimes seems like eternity to find the surface you finally shoot out gasping for air before the next wave hits you as it comes down. Thats also not taking into account the chance of having your leash snagged on the reef or a shark eating you. So nar its not harmful or possibly deadly in any way i hope that answered your question
