I don't make my money as a strip miner, nor a deep miner. I see the viewpoint from both sides of surface/underground though. Are you against underground room and pillar mining too eastwood? If not it sure sounds like it! These people want coal GONE! First they start with surface mining, next they hit underground! Open your eyes! Coal is WV!!!

I agree with you about the economy of southern WV relying heavily on coal. I think the economic base needs to be broadened and other industries encouraged to move into the area. MTR is my main concern. I don't think we're ready, from a practical standpoint, to move away from coal altogether.

If you want to learn more about the dangers of Blankenship and Mountain Top Removal read the book "Coal River" by Michael Shnayerson or read New York Times article, "Toxic Waters: Clean Water Laws Are Neglected, at a Cost in Suffering" in the Sept. 12 issue.
