In February 2009, four acoustic doppler current profiler (ADCP) instruments were deployed in the Florida Atlantic waters near Ft. Lauderdale. This was an important milestone for the ocean energy program managed by the Center for Ocean Energy Technology (COET) at Florida Atlantic University (FAU). The ADCPs were spaced 5 miles apart along a east-west cross section of the Gulf Stream, with anchors bringing the instrument buoys to the ocean floor. The ADCPs will monitor over several months various aspects of the Gulf Stream, including current strength and direction. The data shall be collected and analyzed in anticipation of the 1st test turbine to be deployed by COET, scheduled for summer 2009. Producer: Steve Skemp
