My great-grandfather flew and i think died in one of these.... 3 crashes later lol

@terr0rwolf so your grandfather was the enemy, great...

Regarding throttle steering--I've heard that you could throttle steer this airplane, max throttle one engine and min the other--I bet that would wake you the heck up. A beautiful plane that could dogfight and pound the ground.

In any WW2 fighter game, when playing German this bitch of a plane is always one I worry about getting on my 6 and lazoring me from like 800 meters away.

@lqr824 You climb. Get above the enemy and then dive down on him. Look at the climb rate of the P38 and the maximum ceiling. Then compare that to whatever opponent OR allied plane of the era. The P38 would outclimb the P51 and had a higher ceiling by 4,000 feet. With the guns mounted in the nose you were firing straight on, so distance from target was not as much of an issue as it was for wing-mounted guns

One of my favorite planes of this era. My grandfather had seen them, he flew for a while a ME-109 defending Berlin. They called it "Gabelschwanzteufel". I also read the book about "Glacier Girl" - let's hope there aren't any more losses :)
