A visit to the Romney Hythe and Dymchurch Railway on June 25th 1993.
The locomotive that day was No9 WINSTON CHURCHILL (but her original name was DOCTOR SYN appropriately changed at the end of the war). No 9 was built to Canadian outline complete with cow catcher, in 1931 by the Yorkshire Engine Company (of Sheffield No2294). The wheel arrangement is 4-6-2 Pacific.
In 1992 No9 was driven by a young female driver. Can anyone give me her name? I remember it because my two daughters were very impressed by the fact that a woman was in charge of the locomotive.
Other engines in steam that day were No5 Hercules and No7 Typhoon. There was also a blue diesel on duty, No14 Captain Howey.
Since these images were taken in 1993, No9 was overhauled during the winter of 2004/2005 and is back in action on the line since 2005.
